Thirty eight County Galway community groups have been allocated grants totalling €143,000 under the Department of Rural and Comunity Development’s Community Enhancement Programme.
The grants, which are allocated to individual groups by Galway County Council, will benefit both medium and small-scale community projects and initiatives.
Galway East TD and Minister for Rural Affairs Seán Canney said: “I am very pleased that the funding from my Department will benefit so many groups across the county, including 20 in Galway East.
“The Community Enhancement Programme is vital for the support it gives to the needs of our local groups who do so much good work in our communities.
“The medium-scale projects to benefit will each receive €15,000. They are for: The Mall Theatre, Tuam, to re-roof and waterproof the building; Mullagh GAA Club to extend and refurbish its community centre; Dunmore Tidy Towns for the provision of a pathway/cycleway to enable safe access from the village to Graveyard Park and the Ability West Group Home; Caltra Community Centre for a footpath to link the Community Centre, GAA grounds, playground and playschool to the village; Clann Resource Centre, Connemara, to insulate and upgrade the vacant old school building for use as a Youth Café; Clarinbridge Men’s Shed for the renovation of the Parish Hall, including the fitting out of sheds; and Mountbellew Community Centre for energy efficiency works.”
