Many shows cannot proceed in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic but I am delighted that my Department, the Department of Rural and Community Development, has decided that the funding offered for this year can be used in 2021.
The shows, which were each allocated around €5,000, included Ardrahan, Athenry, Corrandulla, Gort, Glenamaddy, Ballinasloe and Claregalway.
I want to thank my ministerial colleague Michael Ring TD for his decision to allow the funding to be carried forward.
These shows are important landmarks for the farming community and attract a huge amount of interest. Many provide a significant boost to the local economy.
I also acknowledge the great efforts of all the volunteers who do so much to make these shows happen.
All shows supported by the fund are members of the Irish Shows Association.
