Lissadyra housing estate in Tuam is set to be taken in charge by Galway County Council.
The move means the county council will take over responsibility for roads, footpaths and public lighting.
There are more than 140 houses and the residents have been lobbying for this for a number of years.
I received confirmation that Galway County Council has agreed to put this estate forward for ratification.
The final step is for the Tuam Municipal District members to agree with the proposal to take the estate in charge. That decision will be on the agenda for their next scheduled meeting on September 2.
I am very pleased for the residents that this process is set to be concluded.
Once the estate is taken in charge, the residents will retain responsibility for maintaining open spaces and grass cutting.
