Galway East TD Seán Canney has urged all citizens in the county to engage in the public consultation process which will shape future development in our county up to 2028 and beyond.

Deputy Canney said: “The new County Development Plan will set out the Strategy for the future planning and sustainable development of County Galway

“The first of three public consultation periods will run for 12 weeks between 18th June 2020 to 10th September 2020 (inclusive).

The Issues Paper is the first step in the making of the County Development Plan and presents an overview of the main planning and development issues in Galway. The Issues Paper seeks to encourage public debate on the broad issues that should be considered in the new plan.

“The issues to be planned for include Core Strategy on Housing, Urban Living, Rural Living, Economic Enterprise Tourism & Retail Development, Rural Enterprise and Infrastructure & Transport, Environment Renewable Energise, Heritage – Natural, Heritage – Built, Social Community & Cultural Development and Agriculture, Fishing Marine & Forestry.

“There are many challenges and opportunities to be planned for including public transport, remote working, digital development and the revitalisations of our towns and villages.

Now is the time to plan for our future, do not leave it to others, “have your say”.

Galway County Council is currently taking appointments every Wednesday at County Hall as part of the Issues Paper Consultation.
