Galway East TD and Minister for Rural Affairs Seán Canney has stressed the importance of income supports after latest statistics confirmed that unemployment has soared.
Today’s Live Register figures showed 513,350 people are on the register or receiving income support from the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection or the Revenue Temporary Wage Subsidy Scheme.
Minister Canney said: “The COVID-19 crisis has transformed the employment landscape.
“The Government’s income support and wage subsidy measures are vital for people now facing financial distress.
“It is important that everyone is aware of their entitlements and claim them.”
The schemes are also absolutely essential to maintain the links between employers and employees so that the economy is readily positioned for future recovery.”
The Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection has published an updated information notice on income supports for employers and employees, including frequently asked questions and answers.
