Seán Canney TD, Minister of State for International and Road Transport, Logistics, Rail and Ports and Leader in Cabinet of the Independent Ministers, has said the newly announced 2026 round of the Community Sport Facilities Fund (CSFF) offers a valuable opportunity to progress new and upgraded swimming-pool facilities nationwide.

Minister Canney noted that the CSFF – the State’s primary capital programme for sports infrastructure and the successor to the Sports Capital and Equipment Programme – has supported thousands of facilities in recent years. He said the new round in 2026 provides a timely opening for organisations to bring forward strong aquatic-facility proposals.

“The CSFF has delivered major investment in sports facilities across the country,” Minister Canney said. “The upcoming round gives clubs, schools and community organisations a real chance to put forward well-developed swimming-pool projects that will benefit people of all ages.”

He highlighted Ireland’s growing success in swimming and para-swimming as evidence of the sport’s potential.

“Our swimmers continue to make their mark at European and world level,” he said. “Supporting the development of modern, accessible pool facilities will strengthen participation, water-safety skills and high-performance pathways.”

Minister Canney encouraged organisations to consider aquatic projects as part of their planning for the new CSFF round.

“Swimming delivers benefits for health, inclusion, rehabilitation and performance. The next CSFF round is an ideal opportunity to advance pool developments that will serve communities for decades.”
