Seán Canney TD, Minister of State for International and Road Transport, Logistics, Rail and Ports and Leader in Cabinet of the Independent Ministers, has welcomed new funding for Galway projects under the Adult Literacy for Life (ALL) Collaboration and Innovation Fund.
The funding forms part of an overall allocation of €36,545 for projects across Galway under the Adult Literacy for Life initiative, supporting innovative community projects that help adults develop literacy, numeracy, digital and financial literacy skills.
Among the Galway projects receiving support are:
- Tuam Traveller Family Literacy Project (Galway Rural Development Company CLG) – €7,010
- Financial Wellbeing and Empowerment Programme (Galway County Council Library Services) – €2,790
- Sweet Savings – Money, Budgeting and Cooking Programme (Gort Resource Centre CLG) – €1,798
- SCEAL – Social and Cultural Education for Adult Learners (Galway and Roscommon ETB) – €7,500
Welcoming the announcement, Minister Canney said: “Literacy is about much more than reading and writing. It is about having the confidence and skills to participate fully in everyday life, whether that is managing finances, accessing services online, supporting your children’s education or engaging in your local community.
“The Adult Literacy for Life initiative recognises that learning takes many forms and that people can benefit from support at different stages of life. These projects are helping adults build practical skills and confidence in a way that is accessible, welcoming and community-focused.
“It’s great to see funding coming to Galway under this initiative. I want to congratulate all of the organisations receiving support and thank the staff, volunteers and community leaders involved.”
