Galway Volunteer Centre has announced a number of events to celebrate National Volunteering Week which takes place from September 21st to September 28th. All of these events will take place online and are free to attend.

‘This year, more than ever, volunteering has been shown to be a vital and critical activity in our city and county’ said Donncha Foley. Development Manager of Galway Volunteer Centre. ‘The priceless work of volunteers has always been the foundation of all our lives and we want to celebrate that during National Volunteering Week’.

As the focus of this year’s celebration is on mental well-being, the Volunteer Centre is hosting 2 free online Introduction to Meditation sessions on Monday 21st and Tuesday 22nd where participants can learn how to use mindfulness techniques to improve their mental health.

On Thursday 24th the Volunteer Centre is inviting anyone who manages volunteers to join them for an online informal Connect and Chat networking session, to share experiences of the last year and to look at ways of getting community activity back safely.

The highlight of the week will be the Meet the Organisations session on lunchtime on Thursday 24th, where anyone interested in volunteering can go online and speak to COEP Galway and Big Brother Big Sister who are currently looking for volunteers.

Anyone who is interested in the events can visit www.volunteergalway.ie to find out more and register.

Since 2006 Volunteer Galway (Galway Volunteer Centre) has been supporting thousands of members of the public to find suitable volunteer roles in Galway City and County through selecting roles on our daily updated list of volunteer opportunities that it advertises on behalf of non-profits and community organisations in Galway.

The Volunteer Galway team meets with people to help them choose volunteer roles that match their interests and availability. ‘We are always amazed by the amount of people who come to us with a desire to do something to help others, and we provide a confidential service that gets people doing something that they like and benefits others at the same time’, said Donncha.
