I welcome the fact that the new Fire Station for Athenry is reaching the final stages of construction.
“The new single-storey fire station is located at Ballygarraun South, Athenry. It will consist of a 361 m² fire station building to accommodate three fire tenders, storage areas, equipment storage, watch room, drying facilities, lecture room, compressor room, workshop, toilet facilities, drill yard, drill tower, refuse area and carparking”.
“When complete the building will provide a modern firefighting facility to serve Athenry and the catchment area. This is what the residents and fire service personnel deserve”.
“I commend Cllr. Gabe Cronnelly and Galway County Council for their work in helping to bring this important facility to fruition.”
This fire station follows on from the successful completion of a new fire station in Tuam and I look forward to working with the Department of Local Government and Galway County Council fire service in delivering the proposed new fire station in Loughrea. This will be the third new station to serve the population in the east of the County.
