Portumna Castle receives boost as tea rooms open
Seán Canney TD has received confirmation that the tea rooms at Portumna Castle are ready to open to the public.
This facility will greatly enhance the castle as a tourist attraction and I am delighted that this project is coming to a successful conclusion. The tea rooms are located in the old out houses and the building has been carefully restored to ensure the unique nature of the building has been preserved.
The OPW has also been granted planning permission for a car park and bus park. I have been informed that this project will now proceed to tender stage. This development will further enhance the tourism potential for Portumna. Portumna has many fine attractions, including the Workhouse which is also increasing its visitor numbers. The new mooring which was opened in April 2017 is also a great attraction.
It is important that we promote Portumna and its hinterland as a tourist destination in Galway East.
