Approval has been given for advance works funding to install a temporary emergency access at Rinrush in the event of flooding.
This is of enormous benefit to the 12 families marooned there for more than 50 days in the 2016 floods.
The measure will form part of the overall Gort Lowlands and South Galway Flood Relief Scheme.
The design for the main works is at an advanced stage.
I have been working closely with the Office of Public Works and Galway County Council on the issue of the advanced works, which are critical to those living there.
It will involve installed road access above the flood line.
I want to thank the OPW and Galway Country Council along with the landowners and residents for their co-operation on this issue.
