Seán is married to Geraldine McHugh and they have three children Kenneth, Shane and the late David. He is son of Sheila and the late Christy Canney and is one of a family of seven.
Seán is a Chartered Quantity Surveyor and lectures at Galway Mayo Institute of Technology (GMIT). He is a member of many professional bodies including: Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), The Society of Chartered Surveyors (SCS), The Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (ACIArb).
Seán is actively involved in community affairs and has a deep interest in providing amenities in communities. He is currently Chairman of Belclare/Sylane Community Council which has carried out the development at the Sportsfield in Belclare and is also the sponsoring body for the Rural Social Scheme which serves Caherlistrane, Corofin, Belclare and Sylane. Seán is an active member of Corofin GAA Club.
Seán has been involved in politics since 1985 having served as campaign manager for Paddy McHugh, the former East Galway Independent TD.
