Seán Canney TD, Minister of State for International and Road Transport, Logistics, Rail and Ports and Leader in Cabinet of the Independent Ministers, has welcomed the launch of a new Open Call under the Community Services Programme (CSP).
The announcement opens the long-established programme to new organisations for the first time in a number of years – a key commitment in the Programme for Government.
The CSP currently supports more than 420 community-based organisations across the country, providing vital local services while creating employment opportunities, particularly in disadvantaged areas.
Welcoming the Open Call, Minister Canney said: “This is a really positive step for communities right across the country.
“At its heart, this programme is about people – supporting local organisations that are making a real difference every day, whether that’s through community services, social enterprises or local facilities.
“Opening the programme to new applicants is hugely important. It means more communities will now have the chance to access funding, create jobs locally and respond to the needs they are seeing on the ground.”
The CSP supports organisations that deliver social, economic and environmental services at a local level, while also providing sustainable employment – particularly for those who are most distant from the labour market.
This year also sees increased funding rates under the programme, with enhanced supports targeted at organisations working in areas of greatest disadvantage.
Minister Canney added: “We know the strength of any community comes from the people and organisations within it.
“This programme helps turn good ideas into real services – services that improve quality of life, tackle disadvantage and build stronger, more inclusive communities. I would strongly encourage eligible organisations to take a look at this opportunity.”
