Seán Canney TD, Minister of State for International and Road Transport, Logistics, Rail and Ports and Leader in Cabinet of the Independent Ministers, has welcomed the launch of Intreo Disability Work and Skills Week, which will include a Disability Job and Training Fair in Ballinasloe, Co. Galway, on Thursday, October 22.
The Ballinasloe event will take place in Gullane’s Hotel from 11am to 12.30pm, providing an opportunity for people with disabilities to meet employers, explore job and training opportunities and learn about the supports available to help them enter or return to employment.
The nationwide initiative will run from October 19 to 23, with a series of disability-focused job fairs, information sessions and workshops taking place across the country.
Minister Canney said: “Everyone should have the opportunity to participate in employment, develop their skills and reach their full potential.
“For people with disabilities, there can be additional barriers to finding work or progressing in their careers, and it is important that we continue to address those barriers.
“The event in Ballinasloe is a valuable opportunity for people to meet employers directly, find out about available positions and explore training and employment supports.”
Events throughout the week will connect jobseekers with employers across sectors including retail, healthcare, hospitality, IT, administration and customer service.
Information will also be available on Intreo employment supports, including the Wage Subsidy Scheme, Work and Access and the Work Placement Experience Programme.
Attendance at all events is free, with employers also encouraged to participate.
Further information on Disability Work and Skills Week, including the full programme of events, is available through the Department of Social Protection at www.gov.ie.
