Seán Canney TD, Minister of State for International and Road Transport, Logistics, Rail and Ports and Leader in Cabinet of the Independent Ministers, has welcomed confirmation that over €43.8 million in payments will begin issuing to 10,633 farmers across County Galway today, Thursday, 22 October.
The payments are being made under the 2026 Basic Income Support for Sustainability (BISS) and Complementary Redistributive Income Support for Sustainability (CRISS) schemes.
Nationally, over €551 million is being paid to 110,089 farmers.
Minister Canney said: “These payments are extremely important for farm families across Galway, providing vital income support at a time when farmers continue to face significant costs.
“The confirmation that €43.8 million is now being issued to over 10,600 Galway farmers is very welcome, particularly following the delay to payments over the past week.
The advance payment rate for BISS and CRISS has increased to 75% for 2026, with payments expected to appear in farmers’ bank accounts in the coming days.
The Department of Agriculture has confirmed that 94% of cleared cases have now been paid, exceeding its commitment under the Farmers’ Charter to pay 90% of eligible applications.
Minister Canney added: “The priority now is to ensure that any remaining eligible farmers receive their payments as quickly as possible. I would encourage anyone who has been asked to provide additional documentation to respond promptly so their application can be processed.”
The BISS and CRISS payments follow the Areas of Natural Constraints (ANC) payments issued in September and Eco-Scheme payments issued last week. Together, these schemes account for more than €937 million in area-based payments nationally over the past month.
