Seán Canney TD has received confirmation from the Minister for Finance Paschal Donohoe TD at the Oireachtas Committee on Finance that the Primary Medical Certificate Scheme, which was suspended following a court case in June, has been reactivated pending a full review of the scheme next year.
‘I welcome the fact that the Minister has taken on board my concerns in relation to the scheme being suspended and I stressed to him the importance of clearing the backlog of applications as an immediate priority.
‘The Primary Medical Cert scheme aims to assist people with disabilities and their families to purchase cars that need to be adapted for their needs and is of great assistance to people with disabilities.
‘I previously raised this issue with the Minister in the Dáil during Question Time and I also raised it as a member of the newly-formed Committee on Disability Matters. It is important that I advocate for people with disabilities whose case is not being heard at Government level.’
