Three Galway East schools have been given the green light for temporary accommodation and emergency works, according to Galway East TD and Minister for Rural Affairs Seán Canney.
Approval from the Department of Education has been given to Gaelscoil Riada, Athenry, for three temporary mainstream classrooms, while funding has also been granted for emergency roof works at both Gort National School and Gort Community School.
Minister Canney said: “I am delighted that these approvals have been given.
“The additional classrooms at Gaelscoil Riada are a necessary temporary measure until Athenry’s primary and secondary Gaelscoils combine on a new campus at the existing Clarin College site.
“The new €20 million building for Clarin College itself will be completed early next year as part of the overall plan for education in Athenry, which saw the new Presentation College building opening earlier this year.
“The emergency works for Gort National School and Gort Community Schools are urgently needed.
“I want to congratulate the students, parents, principals, staff and Boards of Management on these awards.
“I also want to thank my colleague, the Minister for Education Joe McHugh TD for supporting the schools’ applications.”
