Seán Canney TD, Minister of State for International and Road Transport, Logistics, Rail and Ports and Leader in Cabinet of the Independent Ministers, has welcomed the allocation of €20,000 to five Galway East primary schools under the Arts Council’s Creative Schools Programme 2026.
The five schools, each receiving €4,000, are:
- Cappataggle National School – €4,000

- Kiltullagh National School – €4,000
- Lawrencetown National School – €4,000
- St Joseph’s National School, Glenamaddy – €4,000
The funding forms part of a national allocation of €664,000, with 156 schools and Youthreach centres joining the Creative Schools Programme this year.
Minister Canney said: “This is very positive news for the five schools in Galway East. The funding will give pupils the opportunity to explore their creativity, develop new skills and take part in arts activities that will enrich their school experience.
“Creative Schools is an excellent initiative that puts children at the centre of developing their own creative projects, and I congratulate all five schools on securing this funding.”
The two-year programme provides each participating school with a professional Creative Associate to help develop and implement a creative plan tailored to the interests and needs of its pupils.
