I was delighted to attend the handover of the Dunkellin Flood Relief Scheme to Galway County Council on Tuesday morning.

“This project was debated in the Dáil in the 1940’s and has been on a long journey to this day.

I was delighted to progress this project at a crucial time when I was Minister in the Office of Public Works.

I commend all the landowners, Galway County Council and the Office of Public Works for helping to bring this project to fruition.

I was delighted to meet some of the local people today who expressed such relief and joy that this project is complete, and their homes are now safe and secure from flooding into the future.

I will continue to work on other schemes including the Gort Lowlands Scheme and the Portumna Flood Relief Scheme to ensure that they are also caried out without undue delays.
