I welcome the commencement of the work to install fibre optic broadband to 500,000 homes and premises in Ireland.
“I am delighted to see progress being made with over 3,500 homes surveyed to date in Galway. The network design is complete and the build works are now progressing with areas such as Kiltormer, Oatfield, Annagh, Killconell and Ahascragh being some of the initial areas. In all there are in excess of 38,000 premises to be connected in Galway and I expect to see the pace of installation accelerate over the next year”.
“The requirement for Broadband has been seen during the lockdown and the decision to invest in this contract by the last Government, despite so much political opposition is now proving that we made the correct decision for the country and for rural Ireland. We now have to drive on with the installation in order to reach the houses that Eir failed to connect”
“We need equal opportunity for all our citizens and the National Broadband Contract will help achieve this and it represents an investment of €153 million in County Galway”
“This project will also help create additional jobs in the county during the construction stage”
