I am delighted that a major Galway 2020 project in Athenry has been awarded LEADER funding from my Department, the Department of Rural and Community Development.
Funding totalling €41,450 has been awarded to Amicitia Health and Social Care for marketing, promotion and training for the project entitled A Giant Leap.
The project seeks to set a world record for a sculpture made from recyclable materials to be built in Athenry as part of celebrations for Galway 2020 European Capital of Culture.
The marketing and promotion of the project will involve touring schools around Galway to showcase the processes involved in recycling plastics and creating an awareness campaign about environmental issues.
The funding will also support training to run a Sustainable Education Programme as part of the Giant Leap project.
