I had a very useful and informative meeting at Leinster House today with the Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ISPCA).
The organisation’s Chief Executive Andrew Kelly outlined the ISPCA’s position on non-breed specific measures for the control of dogs and restricted breeds.
Mr Kelly also spoke about the need for tighter regulation for dog breeding establishments and for the online advertising of pets for sale.
My Department, the Department of Rural and Community Development, has carried out a consultation on the control of dogs and we are now reviewing the responses before bringing forward recommendations.
