I am delighted that Dunkellin Bridge has reopened today after significant repair works were carried out.
The bridge has been closed since collapsing last year.
Its closure caused considerable difficulty for people living in the area with roads blocked off and major diversions put in place.
I visited the bridge in recent months with Cllr Geraldine Donohue and we kept in close contact with Galway County Council and the Office of Public Works to ensure that the work was carried out as quickly as possible.
It is great to see traffic flowing over the bridge again.
Dunkellin bridge received €420,000 from the Department of Transport for improvement works earlier this year as part of Galway County’s €29 million allocation for regional and rural roads.
I am also pleased to see that Dunkellin flood relief scheme is progressing towards completion.
