Work will begin this week on the new footpath crossing the old railway line in Vicar Street, Tuam.
I have received confirmation from Galway County Council that all agreements are in place with Irish Rail for the work to proceed.
I am delighted that this work is going ahead following concerns about safety for those crossing the line.
It means there will be a new footpath from the Galway Road side into Tuam town centre, providing safe access for pedestrians and students attending the new Gaelscoil.
The improvements will also offer better line of sight for traffic at the junction of Vicar Street and Liam Mellows Street.
