Galway East TD and Minister for Rural Affairs Seán Canney has welcomed two significant grants for Galway under the Regional Museum Exhibitions Scheme 2019.
The Irish Workhouse Centre in Portumna has received €5,000 and Galway County Council’s Education and Learning Zone has received €12,000 in allocations from the Department of Heritage, Culture and the Gaeltacht.
Minister Canney said: “I am delighted with these funding allocations. The Irish Workhouse Centre is making great strides as a cultural and social hub for both local people and tourists. It is also firmly on the map as part of Failte Ireland’s tourism campaign to promote Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands.
“Support for educational initiatives in museums is always important and the allocation for Galway County Council is very welcome. I want to congratulate both bodies for successfully applying for funding under this year’s scheme.”
The Minister for Heritage, Culture and the Gaeltacht Josepha Madigan TD announced 22 allocations nationally under the 2019 fund worth a total of €138,000.
